Talk:Jewel river

In this case "plenty of jewel fishes" should be "plenty of jewel fish" because "fish" can be plural as well as singular. For example: "A group of fish", "A fish". Compare that to a word that isn't both singular and plural, like "tree": "A cluster of trees", "A tree".

I don't know why that is that way; there's a reason everyone (except me) hated English class in elementary and jr. high school (that's grades 1-6 and 7-9). (Don't even get me started on those irregular words like "people". When singular it's "person", but when plural it's "people". Yet, there are sentences where "peoples" and "persons" are correct!) This plural/singular mess gets even worse when we're dealing with words that we borrowed from another language, like "virus". "Viri" is supposedly the plural form for "virus" in that language and so you will see that a lot (but viri isn't actually correct in Latin) but the "true" plural is "viruses". Many people think that "viruses" sounds funny (and it does in some sentences), so they use "viri".
