Saya was once an ordinary giant naga hunting prey in between the Giant tree and the Ascarlin mountains. Her life was abruptly turned upside down when she caught and ate the Dark Goddess Kallisti. She was quickly thrown into a painful and confusing adventure that ultimately resulted in her becoming the priestess of Kallisti's new cult on Felarya. No longer could she simply regard humans as food: she would have to discern which ones were worthy of protection and which ones deserved to be eaten. Saya is still innocent in many respects, learning the ways of species other than her own (often learning of worlds beyond Felarya in the process) and trying to understand the powers both magical and demonic that she's been exposed to. But she does know that her duty is to protect the little people in her care, and will defend them aggressively if a threat arises.

Saya has a special affection for the neko Aimi and was emotionally traumatized when she accidentally swallowed and digested her little companion in the midst of a fight with a dridder. (She didn't like dridders before this, and now she positively loathes them.) Thankfully, Kallisti showed mercy and used her great powers to give Aimi's soul a new, magical, body. As the naga and the neko learn more about the forms of magic they've been exposed to, they will become powerful protectors of all who journey with them.
